Park Royal Shopping Centre was opened in 1950 and was Canada’s first shopping centre. It is situated at the corner of Marine Drive and Taylor Way in West Vancouver, separated by Marine Drive into Park Royal North and South.
Earlier this year, Park Royal started its latest facelift, a major one after the Village at Park Royal opened in 2002. Coincidentally, this year marks West Vancouver’s 100th birthday.
The overpass (pictured above) is rumoured to be torn down to make a more transparent entrance.
Above is the parking lot at the North side. At first it looks no different from what it was like before, but
The short shrubs and the small sidewalks along the entrance have all been removed and dismantled.
The overpass in the above photo is rumoured to be torn down as part of a more open, transparent mall entrance. The traffic lights have been put in place. One thing for sure – it will be quite an adjustment to get used to the new traffic pattern around the mall.
Being a long time North Shore resident and a West Vancouverite for over 20 years, and I still remember that it used to be a very quiet town after 9 o’clock every night. The changes have sure been gradual and noticeable, and they have made living on the North Shore more enjoyable.
