A Surprising Visitor

The other day after work, we drive to a local beach and greet an unexpected visitor.

She is an elephant seal, and she has been at the beach for the last few days.

Plenty of sunshine for her to warm up.

Thank you for the opportunity meeting you.  Magnificent animal indeed.

Lonsdale Quay – Improvement?

Whether this will be completed on time remains a mystery…

image

Lonsdale Quay connects the North Shore people to the rest of the Greater Vancouver with seabus linking buses and skytrain.  It is one of the busiest stations during morning and afternoon commutes.

I think the fare system works most of the time because there is always checking, or at least standing, at the entrance to prevent free rides.  However, when I first arrived in Vancouver in the 90s, it was a “honour system,” meaning it was up to the self consciousness to pay to enjoy the transit service.  Wit the population growth Vancouver has experienced in revent decades, it’s only wiser to implement something like a faregate to make sure people pay for the service.

More positive changes soon, I hope…

Korean Food Night/韓國料理

Last Saturday, I took my family to this family-style Korean restaurant on Lonsdale.

Pork Bones & Potatoes in Spicy Soup

Kimchi Jungol – SPAM, tofu, kimchi soup, rice noodle, and pork

Spicy House has good food, and it’s fit on a tight budget as well.  Good portion with great taste.

Trying out new restaurant

I consider eating to be a very important part of life.  We need to eat in order to survive.  Gradually eating has become more of a luxury sometimes, whether it’s out to a fancy restaurant, or just to a little family-style eatery.  To me, being able to eat is being blessed.

We are still deciding what to have for dinner when my wife suggests this place.  At the corner of 12th and Lonsdale in North Vancouver, it is not a big restaurant but rather it has a cozy and homey feel to it.

We look through the menu and quickly decide on two noodle:

Mild seafood noodle soup

Black bean sauce noodles

They are both delicious.  The soup is very tasty, the sauce is very well seasoned, and the noodle adds quality to the presentation of the dish.  The total bill comes to about $18.00.

BeaverTails – Lonsdale Quay

Last Sunday, after going to our first Dim-sum in almost three months, together with family, we headed to Lonsdale Quay Market and tried to feed on the suggested beavertail.  No no, it’s not some banned delicacy, but it is a delicious dessert item.

Basically you take a small dough, stretched out to thin proportion and then fry it.  Sounds simple enough.  However, season it with cinnamon and sugar after frying gives it a very tasty flavour.

The food stand is located in the food court section in the Lonsdale Quay Market, which is full of retail stores in handcrafts, food, seafood, bakery, and flower shops.

The price is $4.50 + tax, cash only.
